Sicily Cycling Club on Tour: Dolomites Edition

Sella group from Passo Gardena, Dolomites

IN THE DOLOMITES – JUNE 20–26, 2027

Sicily Cycling Club on Tour – Dolomites Edition

Besides Sicily, one of the places we love the most to ride our bikes in Italy is the Dolomites. For this reason, from June 20 to 26, 2027, the Sicily Cycling Club goes on tour: one week of cycling among the legendary passes of the Giro d’Italia and the Maratona dles Dolomites, with the pale towers of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, always above you.

It will be a way to explore another part of Italy while keeping the winning format of the Sicily Cycling Club: one hotel for the whole week, our guides, mechanic and follow vehicle, great food and a group of friends. Same team, same spirit, same attention to every detail, just a different and breathtaking playground. Nothing can connect souls like cycling together and sharing the same effort.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Sicily Cycling Club on Tour - Dolomites Edition 2027 map

The Dolomites are a dream destination for every cyclist: the roads of the Giro d’Italia and of the Maratona dles Dolomites, legendary passes with hundreds of hairpins and the pale rock towers of the “Monti Pallidi” above you. Culture and breathtaking landscapes are always part of our trips. It’s all about cycling, but not just about cycling. We will take you on the most beautiful roads of the Dolomites: Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Campolongo, Giau, Valparola, Falzarego, Furcia and, for the brave ones, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. In the meantime, you will discover lovely places like Corvara, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Val Badia, Val Gardena and the Pusteria Valley.

Cycling in the Dolomites is both challenging and rewarding. Flat roads do not exist here, so be prepared to embrace long climbs. But don’t stress about your speed – just soak in the incredible views and enjoy the ride!

Our base for the whole week will be the Excelsior Dolomites Life Resort in San Vigilio di Marebbe (St. Vigil in Enneberg), a charming Ladin village in Val Badia, South Tyrol, at the foot of the Kronplatz and at the gates of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, in the heart of the Dolomites.

A family-run resort with a large wellness area, pools and saunas, and a restaurant serving South Tyrolean and Italian cuisine: the property has been selected to offer an authentic Dolomites experience, seamlessly blending cycling with the mountain culture of the valley. One hotel for the whole week, no packing and unpacking: every ride starts and ends at the hotel door.

After each ride, you can relax and recover in the spa or with a swim in the pool, looking at the mountains you have just climbed – a perfect way to unwind and recharge.

The Dolomites are a crossroads of three cultures: Italian, German and Ladin. In Val Badia people still speak Ladin, an ancient language descending from Latin, and keep alive traditions, legends and crafts that go back centuries. Riding here you will experience all these different layers: the Tyrolean villages with their onion-domed churches, the farms scattered on the meadows, the trenches and forts of the First World War on the Lagazuoi and the Marmolada, and the warm hospitality of the mountain people.

South Tyrolean food is where the Alps meet Italy: speck, canederli (bread dumplings), schlutzkrapfen (spinach ravioli), turtres and the Ladin cuisine of Val Badia, followed by apple strudel and Kaiserschmarrn. Local wines like Lagrein and Gewürztraminer, craft beers and grappa complete the picture. Food is very important here too, and after a day on the passes you will deserve every single bite.

THE QUEEN STAGE: SELLA RONDA

The ride we all wait for: the Sella Ronda, the loop around the Sella massif that every cyclist dreams of, with four legendary passes of the Giro d’Italia and of the Maratona dles Dolomites in one single day:

1 // Passo Campolongo (1.875 m): the gentle warm-up from Corvara to Arabba.

2 // Passo Pordoi (2.239 m): the “Cima Coppi” of the Dolomites, with its 33 hairpins from Arabba.

3 // Passo Sella (2.218 m): under the north face of the Sassolungo, between Val di Fassa and Val Gardena.

4 // Passo Gardena (2.121 m): the final climb back to Corvara, with the Sella towers right above you.

About 55 km and 1.800 m of climbing for the loop itself, plus the ride from San Vigilio over the Passo Furcia and along the Val Badia to Corvara and back. For the brave ones we can add Passo Giau or Passo Valparola. The mechanic and the follow vehicle will be with us all day long, so everyone can ride at their own pace and stop whenever they want.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

AIRPORT The nearest airports are Milan (Malpensa, Linate, Bergamo) and Verona. Guests will reach the airport and then Bolzano on their own: from Verona (about 1h30) and from Milan (about 3h) there are frequent direct trains to Bolzano, and airport shuttles and buses are also available. If you have questions regarding the booking of tickets or trains please contact us. We are ready to help you.

IT IS IMPORTANT to have minimum 2 hours between connections if you are flying with a stopover so the handling people have time to put your bike on the plane. In the unlikely event that your bike is not delivered to the airport on the same flight as you and arrives the day after we will give you one of our bikes (if the size is available) so you can ride as planned with the rest of the group. We suggest you bring your pedals, shoes, helmet and one cycling kit in your handbag.

TRANSFER Our meeting point is Bolzano (railway station). We will be waiting for you there on June 20 and bring you and your bike to the hotel in San Vigilio di Marebbe (about 1h30 drive). On June 26 we will bring you back to Bolzano. Pick-up and drop-off times will be agreed with the group. If you prefer to come by car, you can drive directly to the hotel.

SCC will be responsible for the daily bike rides. All Customers will ride with SCC every day. SCC guides will give insight into the special location and the history of the different valleys, villages and passes we ride through.

LEVEL OF FITNESS This trip is suited for all people who ride the bike 2 times a week or more. The climbs of the Dolomites are long (10 to 20 km) but never extreme in gradient. I booked a guided ride with Sicily Cycling Club. My guide Peppe arrived with a great Cervelo bike and took me on an epic climb. Peppe was encouraging and made really good conversation. He pushed me on the ride and in the end I was tired but really happy for the experience. The roads up to Mte Kalfa were amazing and the views from the top were worth all the work. If you want to ride in Sicily , these are the guys !!!

Great Place to hire a guide and rent a bike if you are in Sicily. Great communication and ease to deal with. I wish I had a better bike but for one day it was OK.

I visited Sicily to reignite my love of cycling. I used to cycle a lot and then cycling was overtaken by the mamil’s with their expensive bikes. I found Tommaso and the Sicily Cycling Club through a friend and booked a 3 day tour. Well I am pleased to say that my love of cycling is firmly back thanks to Antonio and Luca who took me on some amazing trips around Catania. The care and attention and support they gave me on what were very hot days and the kind of terrain I haven’t cycled for many years was incredible. They were extremely nice guys as well. Tommaso organised my trip brilliantly including booking a really great little B&B (Epitome) in central Catania. So I want to thank the guys for making it such a special trip and showing me the natural delights of Sicily, the amazing architecture and incredible food and coffee!! I will be back for sure to conquer Etna this time. I had to turn back half way up due to my general lack of training but I will do it next time with their support. Thanks so much guys.

We had perfect bikes (carbon frame, rim brakes and top gears) for our exciting tour to Etna. The organization in advance with Tommaso was great. Danilo set up the bikes perfectly for us on site. Thank you for the top service!

Excellent experience with Sicily Cycling club. They were flexible to my changing plans to deliver the bike to Taormina and pick up from Siracusa. I m new to riding in Sicily and I have got ton of guidance on routes and roads from Tommaso. Vincenzo was super helpful setting up the bike to my specifications (seat, pedals, gadgets etc). Bike didn’t disappoint too. I would recommend buying routes from them instead of using strava or kamoot. The roads you take really make a difference and they know best cycling friendly routes. I used their Siracusa- Ragusa-Modica -Noto route and it was exceptional off traffic roads. I couldn’t be happier.

We just finished Sicily Cycling Club’s magical 600+ mile 9 day Cycling for Change Giro Di Sicilia. It was an amazing journey up in the mountains and down along the beaches around the entire island.

A heartfelt thanks to Tommaso and his crackerjack team who planned an incredible tour and took first-rate care of us. The route and scenery were quite different each of the nine days, and made all the more memorable because of our hosts impressive insider’s knowledge of the local history, with stops at off the beaten path, yet highly worthwhile, sites to along the way.

Each nite we were treated to all that Sicily has to offer in the way of unique cuisine – with a great dinner and lovely (mostly) boutique hotels.

If you’re looking to cycle in Sicily – these are the folks you want to show you around!
